How to select your planner
Let’s look at your options when choosing an event planner.
1. Executive Assistant:
Pros: Great at details and organizing. Has booked venues before, coordinated RSVPs, prepared materials for internal planning sessions.
Cons: No idea how to align the event with your brand and business goals. Isn't positioned to negotiate the best supplier prices. Doesn’t know how to market, recruit sponsors, understand and manage attrition. Already has a full plate.
Bottom Line: Unfair and un strategic choice.
2. Department Junior or Intern:
Pros: Tons of energy. Willing to work long hours. Will go to any lengths.
Cons: Never planned an event before. May fold under pressure. Unfamiliar with event day demands. Untested at managing details and meeting deadlines.
Bottom Line: High risk. Possibly disastrous choice.
3. Cheapest Planner Available:
Pros: Cheap.
Cons: (Likely) inexperienced. May overlook important details. May cut corners, creating gaps you’ll need to fill. Event day may be interesting for you.
Bottom Line: You get what you pay for. Possible embarrassment.
